This UT/Cisco project is an excellent source for Internet stats. The report of the same name breaks down into 4 layers. The first layer looks at Internet infrastructure (telecom companies, Internet carriers, and ISPs). The second layer, the Internet Applications Infrastructure Indicator, studies Internet software products and services. Layer three, the Internet Intermediary Indicator, includes businesses conducting transactions on the Web, and the final layer, the Internet Commerce Indicator, looks only at companies that conducted Web-based commerce transactions. The site includes case studies for each of these indicators and offers a Big Picture overview of the Internet economy.
