Bossidy joined General Electric as a trainee in 1957, rising to vice chairman and executive officer in 1984. He left GE in 1991 to become chairman and CEO of AlliedSignal, a position he held until the merger of AlliedSignal and Honeywell in 1999, when he became chairman of Honeywell, the name given the combined companies. He retired from Honeywell in April 2000. After European regulators blocked the much-publicized merger of Honeywell with GE last July, Honeywell seemed somewhat lost under Bossidy’s successor–at least the board thought so, and called in Bossidy to replace him. Bossidy is also co-author, with Ram Charan, of Execution: The Discipline of Getting Things Done.
