Robert W. Galvin is chairman of the Executive Committee of Motorola, Inc. He started his career at Motorola in 1940 and held the senior officer’s position in the company from 1959 until January 1990. Under his leadership, in 1988 Motorola became the first large company to win the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. This article is based on a presentation made by Mr. Galvin at Arthur D.
